Albert Creek update - August 10th

From Aug 6th through Aug 10th Albert Creek averaged 36.6 birds/day and 0.24 birds/net-hour for a total of 183 birds banded. New banding species for the season included Orange-crowned Warbler on the 7th, Cape May Warbler and Yellow-bellied Flycatcher on the 8th, and Red-breasted Nuthatch and Golden-crowned Kinglet on the 10th. The highlight of the period was the Cape May (see a previous blog entry) but 4 Western Tanagers banded on the 7th and the Golden-crowned Kinglet were also quite exciting. The top 5 most numerous species banded during the period were Northern Waterthrush (36), Tennessee Warbler (18), and Least Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo, Swainson's Thrush and Pine Siskin 11 each. The current season top 5 is Tennessee Warbler (142), Northern Waterthrush (110), Common Yellowthroat (51), Yellow-rumped Warbler (46), and Warbling Vireo (42).

Field observations have been few but a juvenile Horned Grebe and two adult Trumpeter Swans frequenting the marsh are worth mentioning.
