Albert Creek update - August 15th

juvenile male Sharp-shinned Hawk

From Aug 11th through Aug 15th Albert Creek averaged 34.5 birds/day and 0.25 birds/net-hour (excluding the rain day Aug 12th when no banding took place) for a total of 138 birds banded. No new species for the season were banded during this period nor were there real highlights either. The numbers of some early migrants like Tennessee Warbler and some of the southeastern specialties like Magnolia Warbler and Swamp Sparrow are starting to dwindle while White-throated Sparrows still persist in the area. The top 5 most numerous species banded during the period were Northern Waterthrush (34), Yellow Warbler (17), Swainson's Thrush (12), Alder Flycatcher (10) and Common Yellowthroat (9). The current season top 5 is Tennessee Warbler (148), Northern Waterthrush (144), Common Yellowthroat (60), Swainson's Thrush (53), and Yellow-rumped Warbler (52).
