August 4th was a busy day at TLBO with people and a quality day with birds. On top of the usual crew of myself, Julie Bauer from Haines Junction and our long-term volunteer Abril Heredia from Mexico City, Mexico, we also had 4 person Y2C2 crew working with us and the kids and teachers of Teslin science camp visiting us.
The bird of the day was an adult male Audubon's Warbler banded. This marks the second record for the observatory and only the 4th or 5th ever for the Yukon! Other goodies from the nets were the season first Townsend's Warblers (3), including HY male and female together for a great comparison. The little bit of mud at the creek mouth draw in two unusual shorebird visitors - a Greater Yellowlegs and an American Golden-Plover. August 3rd highlights included a banded adult Dusky Flycatcher and an adult male Western Tanager that perched briefly right next to the canopy net!
